Genuine Nishijin fabric made in a Kyoto workshop

The bags by Tatsumi use Nishijin-ori woven by renowned traditional weaving houses.
Nishijin-ori is a luxurious silk textile from Kyoto, designated as a Japanese traditional craft. It is characterized by the use of pre-dyed multicolored threads, creating intricate and beautiful patterns.
Nishijin-ori is created by weaving approximately 3,500 pre-dyed threads into intricate and precisely detailed patterns, rather than dyeing the fabric after weaving. This process requires numerous steps to complete.
During the weaving process, a loom called "Rikishokki" (power loom) is used.
Additionally, it can also be woven by hand flag weaving.

Hand-weaving (Tebata-ori) creates a unique texture that can only be achieved through manual craftsmanship. Additionally, it offers several advantages:
・No limitation on the number of colors for the weft threads
・Capability to weave complex fabric structures, such as incorporating Japanese paper (washi), which is difficult with machine weaving
However, hand-weaving takes several times longer than machine weaving, making the fabric more expensive.
At Tatsumi, we offer a lineup of products that utilize the unique characteristics of both machine weaving and hand-weaving.
